Jürg Kramer has become the new President of the German Mathematical Society (DMV) on January 1, 2025, and Moritz Kaßmann (Bielefeld University) is his Vice President.

The Executive Committee of the European Mathematical Society held its meeting from November 15-17, 2024, at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Turin, under the organization of EC member Professor Susanna Terracini.

Eurostat announces the third round of the European Statistics Awards for Nowcasting, with a focus on international trade in goods. The competitions begin in September 2024 with registration open until 30 October 2024.

The 2024 Jaroslav and Barbara Zemánek Prize in functional analysis is awarded to Christopher Schafhauser (University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA) for his outstanding contributions to the classification and structure theory of C*-algebras, in particular to the Elliott classification programme.

The ninth edition of the European Congress of Mathematics (ECM) attracted almost 1400 participants, exceeding the number of participants at previous editions. The Organizing Committee delivered a conference of high scientific content, with a particular focus on inclusivity, as demonstrated by the 120 scholarships awarded to young mathematicians and to those from developing countries who did not have the means to attend.

The 9th European Congress of Mathematics (9ECM), that takes place from July 15th to 19th in Sevilla, is not only the place to discuss the entire spectrum of contemporary mathematics – it is also the opportunity to bring together the network of members of the EMS and to honour outstanding mathematicians of European nationality or working in Europe, in recognition of excellent contributions to mathematics.

Following the vote of the EMS Council during the Council Meeting held in Granada, Bologna has been chosen as the venue of the 10th edition of the European Congress of Mathematics (ECM) to be held in 2028.

The EMS and EMS Press are sad to hear of the recent death of Professor Rolf Jeltsch, esteemed mathematician and former President of the EMS (1999-2002), the Swiss Mathematical Society (2002-2003), the GAMM Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (2005-2007) and the ICIAM (2007-2011). The EMS and EMS Press extend their condolences to the family and friends of Professor Jeltsch.
