The aim of the Ostrowski Foundation is to promote the mathematical sciences. Every second year it provides a prize for recent outstanding achievements in pure mathematics and in the foundations of numerical mathematics. The value of the prize for 2021 is 100.000 Swiss francs.

The EMS Office is currently closed for the summer holidays, and will reopen on 23 August 2021.

The EMS warmly congratulates Anna Kiesenhofer, an Austrian postdoctoral mathematician at University of Lausanne (Switzerland), who earlier this week won the cycling road race at the Olympic Games!

The Jaroslav and Barbara Zemánek Prize in functional analysis with emphasis on operator theory for 2021 has been awarded to Jochen Glück (University of Passau, Germany).

zbMATH has been open access since 1st January 2021. Our database is now freely available to everybody worldwide. We are taking this opportunity to invite the mathematical community to become involved in the future development of the database.

The EMS supports the call from the European Research Council for researchers to make their voices heard clearly in the Conference on the Future of Europe.

The 8th European Congress of Mathematics closed last month! The event was held online from Portorož in Slovenia, and was a big success (despite inevitable occasional technical glitches).

The 100th anniversary conference of the International Mathematical Union will now take place on 27-28 September in the place the IMU was founded: Strasbourg, France.

Nominations are open for the Olga Taussky-Todd Lecture, which is held every four years at the International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM). This honor is conferred on a woman who has made outstanding contributions in applied mathematics and/or scientific computation'.
