The next deadline for applications to the EMS-Simons for Africa programme is approaching on 15th September. The aim of this programme is to promote individual career possibilities with consequence of an improved global capacity in African academic institutions. The aim of the Ostrowski Foundation is to promote the mathematical sciences.
Every second year it provides a prize for recent outstanding achievements in pure
mathematics and in the foundations of numerical mathematics. The value of the
prize for 2021 is 100.000 Swiss francs.

The Jaroslav and Barbara Zemánek Prize in functional analysis with emphasis on operator theory for 2021 has been awarded to Jochen Glück (University of Passau, Germany).

The 8th European Congress of Mathematics closed last month! The event was held online from Portorož in Slovenia, and was a big success (despite inevitable occasional technical glitches).
