Call for Nominations: EMS Young Academy 2027-2030

The EMS Young Academy (EMYA) strengthens the voice of early-career mathematicians within the EMS and supports their participation in shaping the future of the European mathematical community. EMYA members contribute to EMS activities, develop initiatives for early-career researchers, and help bring the perspectives of younger mathematicians into EMS decision-making.

Nomination details

• Deadline: 31 July 2026
• Submission: via the EMS calls platform, using the form "Nomination to the EMS Young Academy 2026"
• Nominations: each EMS corporate member may submit up to two nominations
• Eligibility: the call is open to mathematicians from 3rd-year PhD students up to 5 years post-PhD at the time of nomination

For postdoctoral nominees, the 5-year period is calculated from the date of PhD award to the nomination deadline. Under normal circumstances, nominees are eligible if their PhD was awarded on or after 31 July 2021.

In the event of maternity, the upper limit is normally extended by 18 months for each child. For other parental, adoption, compassionate or extended sick leave, the upper limit is extended to match the documented time spent on leave.

Required documentation

Each nomination requires a separate form submission. If more than two nominations are received from the same corporate member, only the first two submitted will be considered.

The nomination must include:

• nominee information, including basic details, affiliation, career stage, research area, and CV;
• a recommendation letter from the nominating institution, explaining why the institution nominates the candidate;
• a motivation letter from the nominee, including their reasons for joining EMYA, willingness and ideas to actively contribute to EMYA's aims, and any previous experience with similar commitments.

Submissions can be modified or withdrawn up to the deadline.
