Job Reference: 977680 Curtin Centre for Optimisation and Decision Science The Curtin Centre for Optimisation and Decision Science works with industry and government to develop new optimisation technology for solving complex modelling and decision problems. The Centre was established in January 2022 and includes 19 staff whose expertise spans operations research, process control, computational modelling, and data science. Current research areas include maintenance planning and scheduling, optimising chemical processes, quantum optimisation, and drill and blast optimisation in mining. Your new role This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to join our Centre on a 3-year appointment, with the possibility of extension. You will work with industry and government partners to apply optimisation methods to real-world problems and take the lead in publishing your work in reputable international journals. You will also contribute to other activities such as preparing proposals for research funding and professional consultancy, supervising honours and PhD students, and teaching at undergraduate or graduate level where required. You will be provided with career development and mentoring opportunities as part of a young, dynamic group in optimisation. Selection criteria A doctoral qualification in mathematical sciences. A track record of publications in high-quality international journals in optimisation, applied mathematics, and operations research. A strong theoretical background in relevant areas such as linear and nonlinear optimisation, mixed-integer programming, algorithm design and analysis, and numerical methods. Excellent computing skills and experience working with relevant programming languages and platforms. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Interest in applied research, consulting, and research commercialisation. Australian citizenship (highly desirable).
