The Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) is a modern educational and research hub that brings together talented educators, experts, and thought leaders to foster a strong and innovative Ukrainian economy. We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Investigator (PI) to drive innovative projects in our future Bioinformatics Lab at the Computer Science Department at KSE. The thematic focus of the lab will be defined by the PI based on their scientific expertise and interests. Potential directions include, but are not limited to, genomics, proteomics, systems biology, digital health, clinical informatics, or computational approaches to drug discovery and precision medicine. The position is flexible but requires a minimum of 3 months per year of in-person presence in Kyiv to engage with students and the academic community. We will assist with accommodation search and local logistics during this period. Requirements for the position: - PhD in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computational Biology, Statistics, or a closely related field. - Strong expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and quantitative biology. - Demonstrated ability to lead independent research projects and publish in peer-reviewed journals. - Demonstrated ability to secure research funding and engage with industry partners. - Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and standard bioinformatics libraries and pipelines (e.g., Bioconductor, Galaxy, Snakemake, Nextflow). - Experience in working with complex biological data (e.g., sequencing, omics, imaging, clinical records). - Familiarity with cloud-based computing (e.g., GCP, AWS, Terra) and reproducible research workflows. - Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Key responsibilities: - Design, lead, and manage research projects in bioinformatics, tailored to your scientific expertise and vision. - Develop and apply novel computational algorithms and statistical models to analyze complex biological and/or clinical data. - Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across biology, medicine, statistics, and computer science. - Build and supervise a research team, including postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and research assistants. - Prepare competitive research proposals and secure funding from national and international sources. - Publish research outcomes in high-impact journals and present at leading conferences. - Support and mentor students in the MSc in Bioinformatics program at KSE. - Establish partnerships with academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and public sector organizations.
