Postdoctoral position: Modelling of heat propagation in additive manufacturing and 3D printing

Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France | Valenciennes

Classification:

A postdoctoral position is available at Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF) within the framework of the Chaire de Professeur Junior project “Mathematical modeling and optimisation of additive manufacturing of ceramics”, funded by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche. The research will focus on mathematical and computational modeling of heat propagation during additive manufacturing, with potential extensions to topological optimization. The position The initial appointment is for 12 months. An extension would be desirable, though funding beyond the first year is not yet secured; available options will be discussed with shortlisted applicants. The position is fully research-oriented and carries no teaching duties. Salary will depend on prior experience. Generous funding is available for research visits, conference participation, and hosting collaborators. The starting date is March 2026 or the earliest convenient date. The lab CERAMATHS is a joint research unit of the mathematics department (DMATHS) and the materials science and process engineering department (DMP). Its mission is to advance ceramics research by integrating mathematical analysis, modeling, and experimental approaches. The postdoctoral researcher will be embedded in the CPJ group of Matthias Täufer within DMATHS, benefiting from both a rigorous mathematical environment and close proximity to applied research activities in ceramics and manufacturing processes. Profile Applicants should have: • a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics, • strong expertise in numerical analysis for partial differential equations, • a demonstrated ability to quickly engage with new research topics, • willingness to collaborate with both theoretical and experimental researchers. French language skills are not required. Participation in language courses after arrival is encouraged. How to apply Applications should consist of a single PDF containing: a curriculum vitae, a letter of motivation, a brief research statement, contact details of two referees willing to provide recommendation letters. Please send your application to matthias.taufer@uphf.fr. Informal inquiries are welcome at the same address.
