The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) is launching two 2-year postdoc positions within the BCAM-Helsinki Lab on Machine Learning and Inverse Problems, co-funded by the ERC Advanced Grant INVERSE-PDE and co-led by Dr. Pedro Caro (BCAM) and Prof. Matti Lassas (Univ. of Helsinki). Project: Work on the mathematical foundations and algorithmic development of operator-based machine learning methods for inverse problems governed by PDEs (operator RNNs, shape imaging, noise-aware operator learning, approximation theory). Includes research visits to the University of Helsinki. Requirements: • PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field (completed before start). • Strong background in analysis of PDEs, inverse problems, and/or numerical analysis. • Interest in mathematical theory of machine learning and neural operators. • Proven track record of high-quality research publications. • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English. Offer: 2-year contract starting Jan – Jun 2027. Gross annual salary of €31,359 – €38,077 (depending on experience) + moving allowance (€1,000 – €2,000) + family allowances (if applicable) + local tax benefits in Bizkaia + Spanish Public Health System coverage.
