Hooke Research Fellow
University of Oxford | Andrew Wiles Building, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG
Classification:
We are seeking talented postdoctoral researchers to take up exciting Fellowship opportunities at the Mathematical Institute. The prestigious Hooke Research Fellowships provide an ideal opportunity for candidates to pursue an independent research programme in applied mathematics, and to join a large existing cohort of leading researchers on Fellowship programmes at the Mathematical Institute: https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/people/list/research_fellow The Department is also advertising a similar fellowship scheme for Titchmarsh Research Fellows in pure mathematics (vacancy 189327): https://my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecruit/erq_jobspec_details_form.jobspec?p_id=189327. The Fellowships are full-time and fixed-term for up to 36 months; applications for job shares or for part-time working to accommodate family circumstances will be considered. Candidates will have research interests compatible with those of our current faculty in the following research groups: Mathematical Biology, Machine Learning and Data Science, Mathematical and Computational Finance, Numerical Analysis, or the Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (OCIAM). You must clearly state at the start of your supporting letter which one research group you feel is closest to your work. You may also indicate a second-choice research group. Candidates whose research straddles the two schemes are encouraged to apply separately for both positions. The successful applicants will be talented researchers who have already produced excellent research during their PhD and in any postdoctoral positions. Securing a Fellowship will offer you the freedom to conduct your own research programme. Fellows will have access to office space, a desktop computer and £3,000 per annum for travel and other academic expenses. To aid the development of their academic profile, Fellows will be required to contribute up to three hours of teaching per week for the 24 weeks of each academic year, averaged over the period of the Fellowship to allow for extended visits elsewhere. The exact nature of teaching will be determined by departmental need and may include teaching in a college to provide cover for a member of faculty. Candidates will have, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in mathematics or a related discipline. They must demonstrate independence and the ability to undertake research of the highest academic standard, an outstanding publication record commensurate with career stage, and a realisable and relevant research plan which would enhance the research profile of the Mathematical Institute. Further selection criteria are available in the job description. We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, particularly from women and ethnic minorities. Please direct informal enquiries to recruitment@maths.ox.ac.uk, quoting vacancy reference 189333.
