zbMATH Open is a professional database which is edited by the Editing Societies, comprising the EMS, Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften and FIZ Karlsruhe, Leibniz-Institut für Informationsinfrastruktur GmbH (“FIZ Karlsruhe”), who is the service provider.
The main responsibility of Database and its content and development lies with the Editing Societies. According to the agreement between the Editing Societies, FIZ Karlsruhe is responsible for the production of Database and all electronic products that are derived from it. FIZ Karlsruhe, providing the leadership board of Database, is responsible for developing concepts for further enhancements of the online database, for implementing new functions and performance features of Database, and for designing the user interface of the electronic services.
The primary task of EMS and Heidelberg Academy of Sciences is to ensure and control the scientific quality of Database, where the scientific recommendations made by Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and EMS while exercising this function are observed by FIZ Karlsruhe as far as possible. EMS has the additional function of integrating and involving Database in (European) programmes and projects, integrating additional data, and supporting FIZ Karlsruhe in the acquisition of new scientific experts and cooperation partners.
Based on a contract between EMS and FIZ Karlsruhe, the EMS shall provide Editor-in-Chief with an annual editorial office budget of €27,314 plus tax to be paid by April 1 of every year that the contract is active. This editorial office budget shall cover all expenses for the Database, including but not limited to, secretarial office support, reimbursable expenses, and all remunerations.
