SUMMARY:Theorems of the 21st Century Seminar
DTSTAMP:20260806T191300Z
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20260818
DESCRIPTION:Date: August 19\, 2026 (Wednesday) at 4PM (UK time)\n\nSpeaker:
	 Prof. Marc Lackenby\, University of Oxford\, UK\n\nTopic: Knots\, Links\,
and Polynomial Bounds\n\nAbout the Talk: Prof. Marc Lackenby is a leading
mathematician in topology\, geometry\, and group theory\, with major cont
ributions to knot theory and low-dimensional topology. In this talk\, he w
ill discuss Reidemeister moves\, the elementary transformations that relat
e different diagrams of the same knot or link\, and the question of how ef
ficiently one can pass between such diagrams. The talk will highlight his
polynomial bounds for simplifying diagrams of the unknot\, and explain rec
ent work extending these ideas to every fixed link type. It will also desc
ribe the consequences for the computational complexity of recognizing knot
s and links. See the blog announcement https://functor.network/user/3333/e
ntry/1896 of this talk for more details.\n\nLink to join: At the scheduled
